1. Who We Are
Grocily ("the app", "we", "us", "our") is a grocery shopping app operated by FXiON LTD, a company registered in England and Wales. This policy explains what data the Grocily app collects, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. It applies specifically to the Grocily app and supplements the wider FXiON LTD Privacy Policy.
If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at hello@fxion.co.uk.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what we need to run the app's features. Depending on how you use Grocily, this may include:
- Account information — when you create an account, your email address and (optionally) your first name. Authentication is handled securely by our backend provider.
- Your shopping lists and preferences — the items, lists, budget, currency, transport mode and other settings you create in the app. These are stored on your device and, when you are signed in, synced securely to your account.
- Location data — if you grant permission, your device location is used to find nearby stores, estimate distances and travel time, and order your shopping route. Location is used while you are using the app and is not sold or used for advertising.
- Camera data — if you grant permission, the camera is used to scan product barcodes. Images are processed on your device to read the barcode; we do not store photos from your camera.
- Device identifier — a non-personal device ID is generated to support shared lists and to apply usage limits for free and premium plans.
- Purchase information — when you buy a subscription, the purchase is processed by the Apple App Store. We receive your subscription status (e.g. active, expired) but do not receive or store your full payment card details.
- Feedback you send — any messages, price reports or feedback you submit through the app, including the content you write.
- Usage and technical data — basic, largely anonymous information about how features are used and how the app performs, which helps us fix problems and improve the experience.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the core features of the app — building lists, comparing prices, finding stores, planning routes and scanning barcodes.
- Sync your lists and settings across your devices when you are signed in.
- Manage your subscription and apply the correct free or premium feature limits.
- Respond to your feedback and price reports.
- Diagnose problems, prevent abuse and improve the app's performance and features.
- Comply with our legal obligations.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), we process your personal data on the following bases:
- Contractual necessity — to provide the app features you ask for, such as syncing your lists or managing your subscription.
- Consent — for permissions you grant in the app, such as location and camera access, which you can withdraw at any time in your device settings.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the app secure, prevent abuse, and improve our services, provided this does not override your rights.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with trusted providers who help us operate the app, and only as needed:
- Cloud hosting and database — our backend provider stores your account, lists and related data securely on our behalf.
- App Store and subscription management — Apple processes payments, and our subscription provider records whether your subscription is active.
- Product and price lookups — to show product details and prices, the app may query third-party product databases and price sources. These queries relate to products (for example a barcode or item name), not to your identity.
- Legal authorities — where required by law or to protect our legal rights.
6. Data Retention
We keep your personal data only for as long as needed to provide the app and meet our legal obligations. Your account data and lists are retained while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise the associated personal data, except where we are required to keep certain records by law.
7. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data, including your account.
- Object to or restrict processing of your data.
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, or to request deletion of your account, please contact us at hello@fxion.co.uk.
8. Permissions You Control
Location and camera access are optional and are only used for the features described above. You can grant or revoke these permissions at any time in your device's settings. Revoking a permission may disable the related feature (for example, route planning or barcode scanning) but does not otherwise affect the app.
9. Children's Privacy
Grocily is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
